UPX7 Resin Adhesive

UPX7 Resin Adhesive

Detailed description

Borden UPX-7 is a powdered urea formaldheyde resin glue for general joinery, cabinet work & shop fitting. It has been specifically formulated to give reduced formaldehyde emission during use & from the cured joint. It is used by simply mixing with water,  as the correct amount of hardener is already blended into the powder. The reconstituted mix is gap filling, moisture resistant adhesive capable of forming joints that satisfy the requirements of BS EN 302-1 A3 type II adhesive. Typical examples of the uses of Type II adhesives include structural use in heated & ventilated buildings, exterior, exposed  joints well protected with paint or varnish & this standard is maintained. The glueline is mould resistant & does not stain most varieties of timber although it should be tested on certain Oak & Cherry species, which can be particularly sensitive.

Mixing Instructions

Use 2 parts UPX-7 to 1 part cold water by weight. Dilution can be varied to adjust viscosity although over dilution is not recommended. Using a plastic, glass or steel container add UPX-7 gently to avoid clouds of dust. Add water & stir until smooth - allow the mixture to stand for 3-5 minutes for adhesive to thicken before use.

Typical Properties

As soon as the powder is mixed, it starts to cure. As a guide the typical pot life @ 20C is 3 hours with a press time of around 24 hours. It is recommended that all substrates to be bonded are above 15C for good bonds to be formed - as all factors are temperature dependant, elevated pressing temperatures will accelerate cure times (i.e. @ 80C 4 minutes) for constructions. Heat transfer through thicker substrates wil vary - as a rough guide add 1 minute for every 1mm thickness.

Typical Properties

  • Cream coloured powder.
  • Viscosity of 75 P @ 20C.
  • 2 years storage life in dry conditions.
  • Can be applied by brush, rollers & hand applicator.

Bonding Plastic Laminates

UPX-7 may be used to bond plastic laminates where resistance to high humidity is required (i.e. bath surrounds, sink units or vanity units). It is essential that adequate pressure is applied with either press or clamps until fully cured.
