Resorcinol Phenolic RS12

Resorcinol Phenolic RS12

Detailed description

Borden RS12-A is a resorcinol phenol formaldehyde resin adhesive used with RXS22-A hardener. This sytem is widely used for timber laminating, door, window & panel making, and general joiney when a high degree of durability is required. It has particularly good water resistance, and satifies the requirements of BS EN 301, Adhesive Type 1 & BS1203 WBP. It is capable of bonding components to achieve Class 0 Fire Resistance. It may be used in conventional hot or cold presses & in the general gluing processes normally encountered in the woodworking industry.

Typical Properties

Technical specification

Ideally suited to bond flat laminates to moisture-resistant wood-based substrates, some flame-retardent & non-combustable substrates.

Fire Door Manufacture - no independant adhesive carries a fire certification as a product & could never be certifed as a Class O adhesive. However, it is stated that RS12/RXS22 is capable of bonding components to achieve Class 0 Fire Resistance - therefore only when used to bond other materials & the final product tested, is any fire resistance classification granted. From experience, our customer's have been successful in obtaining Class 0 Fire Resistance from RS12/RXS22 & Class 1 Fire Resistance from our standard UF adhesives (i.e. F120, UL39).

Bonding of Metal - the choice of the correct adhesive for bonding metal depends on principally two factors:

  • the surface to which the metal is to be bonded.
  • the performance & durability expected of the bond.

Metal can be bonded to wood & other porous surfaces using Primer 4457 a casein latex primer in conjunction with RS12 for optimum durability. See Primer 4457 for more specific information.
