Detailed description

Borden UH28 is a ready prepared mixture of hardener & filler, providing a convenient safeguard against mistakes & reduces number of weighings. UH28 has been specifically formulated to provide the facility of adjusting the pot life & viscosity of the mix, without affecting the setting time under pressure. Suitable for veneering, assembly & joinery work with hot or cold curing.

Cold Pressing - although more suited to use in hot press applications, with the appropriate UF resin (i.e. UL39) it can be used for cold pressing applications. Ideal mix ratio is 25% by weight (fastest) & generally left under pressure overnight. See chart for specific temperature & press timings.

Hot Pressing - ideally suited for use under hot press conditions. With the facility to vary the mix ratio to suit viscosity required (i.e. porous or thin veneers) higher mix ratio will help reduce the adhesive penetration through thin veneers. Mix between 25% (short pot life) - 50% (long pot life) by weight providing a press time of between 2-3 minutes @ 80C. See chart for specific temperature & press timings.

Extender 99 - although this has an inert filler pre-mixed, further amounts of Borden Extender 99 can be added to glue mix to increase its viscosity helping minimise adhesive penetration, when required. No more than 5-10% by weight.

Guidelines for using UH28 with UF Resins

  • Mix by weight not volume.
  • Variable mix ratio between 25% - 50%
  • Prepare all substrates prior to mixing.
  • Moisture content range 6-14%.
  • Apply by twin rollers or hand applicators.
  • Spread rate of around 100-250gsm.
  • Ideal hot press temperature 80 - 100C.
  • Cold press - leave overnight.
  • Below 10C adhesive thickens & cure rate slows.
  • 2 Year Shelf Life.
