Borden Extender 99 can be added to UF resin mixtures to increase the viscosity or decrease the penetration through thin or porous veneers.
Veneer Penetration - the use of Borden Extender 99 is beneficial in reducing or eliminating the penetration of resin through the veneer. This is particularly true of hot press veneering, where the initial increase in temperature reduces the viscosity of the resin/hardener mixture. Larger particles of Extender 99 blocks the pores of the veneer & inhibits capillary action.
Gap Filling - the use of Borden Extender 99 may be essential to achieve the maximum potential of the adhesive's gap filling properties. If the viscosity of the adhesive is to low the adhesive will flow out of the gap & no bond will be formed. It is not recommended for bonding gaps greater than 1mm.
Mixing - can be used in any ratio up to 30% by weight to 100 parts resin. For practical purposes, the use with the thicker resins (i.e. UL39) of the maximum amounts would give a too thick a mixture to be usable. Trial & error will establish the ideal amount for your production needs. Mix by weight.
