F120

F120

Detailed description

Borden F120 is a urea formaldehyde resin adhesive. This grade is particularly tolerant to variable conditions of moisture content, pressure, temperature, absorbency of substrate, etc within reasonble limits. It is used in the manufacture of veneered panels, flush doors, partitions, furniture assembly, etc with multiday light presses, flowline presses, RF curing equipment, LV heaters, etc. F120 is capable of performance in excess of the requirements of BS1203 MR when used with the appropriate hardener.

Hardeners

Urea formaldehyde resins are cured by the addition of hardeners. Borden F120 is a low viscosity & easily mixed with one of a range of powder or liquid hardeners. As well as the conventional powder hardeners, F120 can be used with various special types of flexible, liquid & separate application hardeners. The type & quantity of hardener should be carefully selected according to pot life & pressing time required. Further advice is available from our Technical Department  on 01992 899 025.

UH583 - this is the slowest hardener in the series. Using a high hardener content will permit an all day pot life whilst curing in a hot press in under 45 seconds. Extender 99 filler can be mixed to help minimise glue penetration through veneer surfaces.

UH28 - popular hardener used for warm & hot pressing, Increasing the amount of hardener does slow down the reaction time but the main effect is to increase the viscosity of the mix, offering beneficial gap filling properties. UH28 is a combined hardener/filler.

UXE77 - combined hardener/filler with good gap filling properties. A particular benefit of using UXE77 is that it can offer in excess of 8-10 hours pot life @ 20C allowing minimal down time in production.

Liquid Hardeners

1298 - a unique flexible, very thick animal-based liquid hardener not suited to automatic mix-metering, It is used for laminating high pressure laminates & for veneering oily or curled veneers. Its flexibility permits very small movements in the veneer, thus easing the internal stresses & help minimise cracking & checking. Hot press only.

UXO104 - a filled liquid hardener designed for use in liquid/liquid systems where a modicum of gap filling is required or where penertration is a problem. Used particularly in the manufacture of doors. Can be used in conventional batch mixing, However, a cleaner & more consistent accurate method is to use a mixed metering system - eliminates the glue kitchen & overcomes pot life & potential wastage problems.

Terms

Pot LIfe - as soon as the hardener is mixed with the resin, it starts to cure. The time elapsing after which the mixture is too cured to be usable is termed it's pot life. This is affected by the mix ratio & ambient temperature.

Spreader Life - if the mixture is applied by mechancial spreader, the life in the spreader is normally some two-thirds to three-quarters shorter than the static pot life. This is due to frictional heat & evaporation of water from the adhesive.

Combined Hardener/Filler - it may be more convenient, and less prone to human error, to use one of the range of
combined filler/hardener grades. Helps minimise mixing errors.

Fillers & ExtendersF120 used with the a range of hardeners, will tolerate a high level of Borden Extender 99 without impairing the strength of the bond. It is strongly recommended that they are mixed using a mechanical mixer.
